FocusLock privacy policy

Publisher: QuietKite (Prasenjit Roy)

FocusLock is designed to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what the app handles and why.

Data stored on your device

FocusLock stores the following in a local database on your computer (%LocalAppData%\FocusLock, or the app's private storage when installed from the Microsoft Store):

  • Your Windows account details, used as your FocusLock identity instead of a separate sign-in: the account's security identifier (SID), sign-in name, display name, and user principal name. The account picture is shown from Windows and is not copied.
  • Focus sessions: objective, category, topic, durations, and completion status. Also the number of redirected switching attempts and the names of apps you tried to switch to. Also the domains (for example youtube.com) of websites the website guard set aside, and the domains of websites you opened from learning material or allowed during a session, with counts.
  • Planned focus blocks, the learning sources you choose, your study browser, and how often a session reached its tab limit.
  • Links you save from the tab-limit page, in your Later List.
  • Reflections you choose to write: recall points, resume notes, and attention ratings.
  • Later List items, rewards earned, habit check-in answers, and your settings.

This data never leaves your device unless you export it yourself. You can export or delete it at any time in Settings → Your data.

Calendar integrations (optional)

If you connect Outlook/Microsoft 365 or Google Calendar:

  • FocusLock requests read-only access to your calendar events.
  • It reads only the next 24 hours of events to warn about conflicts and remind you of meetings.
  • Event details are kept in memory only. They are not saved to disk and not sent anywhere else.
  • Sign-in happens directly with Microsoft or Google. FocusLock never sees your password.
  • Access tokens are stored encrypted with Windows Data Protection (DPAPI), so only your Windows user account can read them.
  • Disconnecting removes stored tokens and asks the provider to revoke access (Google).

FocusLock's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Music

FocusLock opens the playlist link you choose and controls playback through Windows media controls. It does not sign in to music services and does not collect your listening history.

Websites and apps during focus sessions

FocusLock opens the learning websites you configure in your study browser. During a Standard focus session that you start, the website guard checks the active tab in your study browser against your learning sources. It reads the tab's address and counts open tabs through Windows UI Automation. If the site isn't one of your learning sources, FocusLock replaces it with a local reminder page.

  • FocusLock does not read page content.
  • It does not keep a browsing history. Only the domain and a count of redirected sites are stored.
  • It never sends any of this anywhere.

To recognize learning apps, FocusLock reads app names from the Windows Apps list and the name of the app in the foreground during a session. It never captures your screen.

Focus Room (optional)

On personal PCs, FocusLock can generate a setup script for a restricted Windows study account. The script runs only when you run it yourself as an administrator.

Analytics, advertising, and sharing

FocusLock has no telemetry, analytics, advertising, or tracking. It does not sell or share personal information.

Children

FocusLock is a general-audience productivity app and does not knowingly collect information from children.
